Santorini Greek Island Greece Summer 2008 ~ It's already warming up in Santorini Greece, preparations are under way for the 2008 summer tourist season. Why would you choose Santorini as your holiday destination? Santorini offers the best sunsets on any of the Greek Islands. The houses cling to the sides of the sheer drop caused by the volcano erupting causing the centre of the island to disappear into the sea and has been blamed for the demise of the Minoan society on Crete, south of Santorini Island Greece.

When I passed through Santorini for the first time it was an awsome experience for me. Yearning to go to Santorini Island for years, finally I was there. A strange feeling came over me as the boat approached the island almost like I felt an echo or was passing through time. Santorini's aura is as awsome as the view you will see as you approach the Greek Island of Santorini. My only regret is that I had not allowed enough time to fully explore this beautiful and so unusual Greek Island. I am planning on returning to Santorini soon in the future. I look forward to experiencing the atmosphere of the most dramatic of all the Greek Islands. I hope you enjoy the wonderful sunsets on the most romantic islands in Greece.

Plenty of businesses for sale on Santorini Island, Crete has many ancient villages to renovate a house to your style or retain the fantastic Greek style. The Greek style of house is more rounded than the Cretan style of using local stone that can be half a metre thick! You can still buy land in Greece and on Crete, check the land can be built on first and there is local electricity than can be connected. Running water is always a problem both on Crete and in Greece, usually water is collected in large containers for the usual water shortage, so use your water wisely!

SANTORINI ~ Saint Irene the Greek Island in the Cyclades Greece ~ Thera or Thira
Santorini is well know as the Greek Island who's volcano erupted around 1500bc. Before the eruption Santorini was a circular island when the volcano erupted it took with it the centre of the island and now you see a semi circular island with a few rocks still poking out of the sea here and there.
The volcanic eruption was on a huge scale and is blamed for the demise of the Minoan civilisation on Crete. The island of Crete is south of Santorini and was apparently hit by a huge wall of water and probably the fall out of the volcano itself. If you visit north Crete, you can see evidence of volcanic ash and rock around the north coast of Crete. Excavations around the town of Akrotiri have unearthed evidence of an early Minoan society on Santorini as well. Please bear in mind that if you hire a car and take it off road Santorini, that the underneath may not be insured if you damage it on rocks or a rough road! A bike is a good idea to hire and if you decide to hire a bike on Santorini, please insist on a helmet and go very carefully as off road is obviously dangerous and the roads can get slippy in the heat.
